Hand soap consists of 80% water. In the Netherlands we have the advantage that clean drinking water is available directly from the tap. As a result, we meet the same criteria as if a manufacturer were to add water to the hand soap. In this way, we avoid transporting water unnecessarily. But why does this make Madée environmentally friendly?
1. Transportation:
A refill of Madée weighs 23 grams, while a filled bottle of Madée contains 250 ml of soap. This means you can carry almost 11 times more in one transport. That reduces the environmental impact.
2. 15x less storage required
Madée's refills take up 15 times less space than regular hand soap bottles on the market. So we need 15 times less space for storage. And therefore lower energy costs for maintaining the storage space. This reduces CO2 emissions.
3. Madée has a longer shelf life
Powdered hand soap has a longer shelf life than liquid soap because bacteria mainly grow in a humid environment. Powder is therefore less prone to bacterial growth, allowing you to enjoy our Madée hand soap longer!
This results in less waste and more efficient use of the product. Less waste means less production and ultimately a lower burden on the environment.
By creating products that last longer, we help reduce the overall demand for new products and reduce the pressure on natural resources.
4. We use only refillable bottles
We use refillable bottles that last a lifetime. By constantly refilling the bottle with Madée refills, you never have to replace the bottle and avoid producing new bottles. This is unlike traditional liquid hand soaps, which are often sold in plastic bottles that are discarded after use.
Although plastic bottles are theoretically recyclable, in practice only 5% of all plastic collected actually turns out to be recycled. This shows the challenges facing the current recycling system. Despite the good intentions of many to separate and collect their plastic waste, the low percentage shows that we are far from there yet.
That is why it is so important to use as little plastic as possible and work with refillable bottles.
5. Environmentally friendly packaging material
We use only sustainable packaging materials.
Our bottles are made of PET plastic, this form of plastic is recyclable. Because we know that only 5% of all plastic collected is actually recycled we think it is important that you buy the bottle once. The bottle will last a lifetime, this way we counteract production with plastic bottles.
The refills are packaged in paper sachets with a small layer of PP5. This form of plastic is recyclable. This layer is essential to ensure that the powder does not become moist. When the powder becomes moist, there is a high risk of bacteria which can cause the shelf life to be compromised. By adding a small layer of PP5, we ensure a longer shelf life, preventing waste.
You will receive your first order from Madée in a cardboard box. You will receive the refills in a paper envelope. These materials are easily recyclable.
